As a Child

As a Child – By: Erickson

The ornaments don’t disturb sleep –

Scratched colored glass – smeared things.

Pointed pyramid – Sunday’s reach –

Thick – forced – frozen too deep.

Man stands at glass case conviction.

“Stage the play, target grays,

Replace different addictions.”

Farther than sun’s distance.

As if it wasn’t Christmas – crisp

Orange-flower smiles – shine –

Cali scent – sickness, smooth falling

Repeat white icicle.

A gift given never received.

Mom – Christian, with blood sleeves –

Greeting faces – sold statues – tarred

Envelope conceals card –

I.D. of the minority –

Hold – dear book on deaf ears.

Pastor points – “struggle” – love, and fears

Promise – shattered stained glass.

Fast, fast. World spins – I turn away –

Volunteers with steamed trays –

Break. I learn to appreciate

Past bells – to ring one day.
